Rochester

Tucked into a remote valley between two mountain ranges, Rochester is one of the more isolated towns in the White River Valley. People who settle here have a talent for growing their own lives and community and excel and embracing the fun times that make life worth living. Rochester is one of the most happening places around, with far more events, recreation, cultural activities and business opportunities than you’d expect in a town many times its size. Come to Rochester and you’re bound to stumble across world-class performers and community-driven fun, likely all at the same time. Rochester is home to a renowned summer music school, local concert series and a theater company. The fall Harvest Fair and Winterfest liven up the town, which is lined with galleries and studios, thriving restaurants, stores and coffee shops. High-speed Internet makes it possible for many residents to work in high-tech professions, and Rochester is home to many writers and artists as well as several small technology and publishing companies. Rochester is an ideal place for outdoor activities as well. It includes many acres within the Green Mountain National Forest and the Riley Bostwick Wildlife Management Area, along with the largest mountain in the area, Philadelphia Peak (3,160 feet). You can find numerous places to access the rambling White River and hiking and biking trails. When you’re done, park on the green with a picnic and soak up the sunshine – a perfect place to relax, meet neighbors, and enjoy the town.
