Pittsfield

Pittsfield is located in the heart of the Green Mountains, in the center of the state. It’s a fitting location, because Pittsfield’s residents have nothing if not heart. When the town was completely isolated by Tropical Storm Irene, Pittsfield’s residents came together – to rescue each other, to share tools and supplies, and for a giant BBQ. While traces of the flooding remain, most visitors to Pittsfield today are struck by the town’s charming green, picturesque back roads, and beautiful river. It is a popular Vermont wedding destination and thousands of people visit each year as they drive up scenic Route 100 to check out the fall foliage. Many stop for a picnic or buy penny candy at the 125-year-old general store. Pittsfield is best known for big adventures. Lying just a stone’s throw from Killington and Pico Mountains, Pittsfield also has miles of its own trails. Fish or paddle the Tweed River, go mountain biking on some of the region’s top trails, or pick up the VAST trails for a day of snowmobiling. And if you’re really intrepid, try one of Pittsfield’s hard core adventure races like the annual Pittsfield Snowshoe Race, one of New England’s toughest marathons. Visit Pittsfield and you might decide to stay – and not just because you’re too tired to move.
